Pyranometers

Pyranometer – CMP3

The CMP3 pyranometer is an instrument for measuring the solar irradiance. The thermopile sensor construction measures the solar energy that is received from the total solar spectrum and the whole hemisphere (180 degrees field of view). The output is expressed in Watts per meter square. The CMP3 pyranometer is designed for continuous indoor and outdoor use.

The CMP3 pyranometer (ISO 9060 spectrally flat Class C) is intended for shortwave global solar radiation measurements in the spectral range from 300 to 2800 nm. The thermopile detector measures irradiance up to 2000 W/m² with a response time of less than 20 seconds and a temperature response of less than 4% within the range of -10 ºC to +40 ºC.

Operating temperature range is -40 ºC to +80 ºC and the non-stability is less than 1% per year.

The CMP3 pyranometer features a snap-on white sun shield, integrated leveling and a weatherproof connector which is supplied pre-wired with 10 m of signal cable for simple installation. An optional mounting rod and longer cable lengths are available. Two CMP3s can easily be mounted back-to-back to make a low-cost albedometer.

The Pyranometer does not require a dedicated power supply. It generates a low voltage output in the estimated range of 0 to 48 mV relative to an irradiance measurement range of 0 to 1500 W/m2.

Pyranometer – SMP3

The SMP3 is a smart pyranometer with low maintenance and industry standard digital and analogue amplified outputs. Based on the proven CMP3 technology the SMP3 adds Modbus® interface, improved response time and temperature corrected measurement data. The wide and low power supply range from 5 to 30 VDC makes integration in meteorological stations easy. The SMP is protected against over voltage, reversed polarity and short circuiting. Because all SMP’s have identical sensitivity and connections exchanging instruments during recalibration is easy.

SmartExplorer Windows™ for data logging, display of data and Modbus® address setting is provided as standard.

SMP3 measures global solar radiation on a horizontal plane. When tilted with the same angle as a PV panel it measures the tilted global radiation, for PV module efficiency calculations.

Pyranometer – CMP6

The CMP6 pyranometer is intended for routine global solar radiation measurement research on a plane/level surface.

Fully compliant with ISO 9060:2018 spectrally flat Class B specifications, the CMP6 features a sixty-four thermocouple junction (series connected) sensing element. The sensing element is coated with a highly stable carbon based non organic coating, which delivers excellent spectral absorption and long term stability characteristics.

CMP6 has a similar detector to the CMP3, but has improved performance due to the increased thermal mass and the double glass dome construction. It is ideal for cost-effective, good quality, measurements in hydrological networks and agriculture.

The integral bubble level is raised to the top of the housing and can be viewed without removing the redesigned snap-on sun shield, which also covers the connector. The connector with gold-plated contacts allows for easy exchange and re-calibration.

The screw-in drying cartridge is easy to remove and the replacement desiccant is supplied in convenient refill packets.

The Pyranometer does not require a dedicated power supply. It generates a low voltage output in the estimated range of 0 to 30 mV relative to an irradiance measurement range of 0 to 1500 W/m².

Pyranometer – SMP10

The SMP10 is a spectrally flat Class A pyranometer and has an internal desiccant that will last for at least 10 years if the housing is not opened. This minimizes maintenance significantly.

From the individually measured temperature response, a specific polynomial correction function is calculated for SMP10. This is loaded into the pyranometer memory and results in a very low change in sensitivity with instrument temperature: Within ± 2% over the range from -40°C to +70°C, compared to the calibration temperature of +22°C.

The interval for dome cleaning can be extended, and the quality of measurements maximized, by fitting SMP10 with the CVF4 ventilation unit.

The SMP10 has Modbus® interface, amplified analogue output, improved response time and temperature corrected measurement data. The wide and low power supply range from 5 to 30 VDC makes integration in meteorological and solar energy stations easy. The SMP10 is protected against over voltage, reversed polarity and short circuiting.

Thanks to the standardized output and connections of every SMP10, exchanging instruments for recalibration is easy.

SmartExplorer Windows™ software for data logging, display of data and Modbus® address setting is provided as standard.

Pyranometer – SMP12

The new SMP12 is fast response spectrally flat Class A pyranometer that combines solid-state dome heating, with no moving parts, and best-in-class surge protection to maximize accuracy and minimize maintenance.

The SMP12 combines proven sensor and diffuser technology from the RaZON+ PH1 and PR1 radiometers with an enhanced version of the Smart interface and the low maintenance of the SMP10.

The SMP12 has an internal drying cartridge that will last for at least 10 years if the housing is not opened. This further reduces maintenance significantly

The SMP12 feature set includes:

  • Solid-state dome heating for dew and frost prevention.
  • Multi-axis tilt sensor to enable remote monitoring of the pyranometer mounting and orientation.
  • Internal humidity and temperature monitoring to provide confidence in the integrity of the instruments internal functionality.

The SMP12 has a 2-wire RS-485 Modbus® RTU interface but, unlike the other SMP models, it does not have an analog output. The characteristics of the thermopile detector provide a fast response time of less than half a second. The wide power supply range from 10 to 30 VDC makes integration into solar energy plant performance monitoring stations easy. SMP12 has class-leading electrical protection in the form of 2-stage surge and reverse polarity protection on the power input and 3-stage surge protection on the RS-485 data lines.

Like all SMP series pyranometers, the calibrated sensitivity is stored in memory and can be accessed via the Modbus® interface and the measured irradiance value is output via Modbus® in W/m². This makes it easy and simple to interchange different instruments when recalibration or repair is required.

SmartExplorer Windows™ software provides: data logging on a PC, displaying of data, changing Modbus® communication settings, configuring of the Modbus® addresses – and more.
